2015 is drawing to a close, and we at Superlogo thought we’d share some of the best brand/logo/design related blogs that we’ve come across whilst on our travels around the Internet. These all made the list because we thought they offered fresh or insightful contributions to the world of branding and brand design. So sit back, grab a coffee, and have a peruse. div style=” background-color: rgba(243, 243, 243, 0.58) !important;box-shadow: 0 0 8px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) inset, 0 0 7px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.208) !important; margin-top:30px;” id=”inner-box”>
Friends of Type
Friends of Type has a really, simple, basic premise that we love. It’s a site that publishes a new logo or piece of branding every day. The objective is simple – to inspire readers and fellow designers. And for us, it does just that! In their own words, it’s less of a blog and more of “a sketchbook, an archive, a dialogue”.
Typewolf offers designers and logo enthusiasts a really useful and nifty resource – a place for designers and creatives to go for advice on typography and fonts of every kind. Founder Jeremiah blogs on the “About” page of his frustration that there weren’t enough font and typography resources for professional designers.
It’s Nice That
It’s Nice That is a blog that curates the very best creativity from around the art and design world in one place. It contains news, reviews, examples of work from a wide range of artists, designers and creatives. There are also editorials, opinion & society pieces, as well as interviews with key influencers from the design and fashion world.
Plenty of Colour
Plenty of Colour does exactly what it says on the tin – it’s a celebration of colour in all its forms. It has different sections devoted to architecture, interior design, travel and travel photography. The blog is even broken down into different categories of colour, and offers readers a plethora of different design inspirations.
Identity Designed is a show case of different branding projects from designers and studios all over the world. It boasts something like 150,000 page views a month, and has fairly strict editorial guidelines when it comes to submissions. But, if you’re looking for a good resource from a project perspective, then this is a good blog to have in your saddle-bag. It’s got a mailing list you can join as well.
The Great Discontent
The Great Discontent is essentially a branding magazine in digital form, and is beautiful to look at. As well as brilliant written content, the blog also boasts a shop where you can buy back issues of the print publication. It contains in-depth reviews, interviews from the world of poetry, art and music. This is not so much a blog about branding, as a really good showcase for how to do it right.
Miss Moss is another useful blog if you are looking for inspiration, plain and simple, rather than an online resource for branding advice per se. A South African blog, it offers another great showcase for those who are interested in ways of making their brand accessible, authentic and real.
I Love Ligatures
I Love Ligatures - another resource for fans of typography, this is a great little Tumblr resource. It’s like a massive mood board full of fantastic logos. The archive is huge and there for you to peruse at your leisure.
Swiss Miss is run by Tina Roth Eisenberg, a Swiss designer living and working in New York City. Tina runs her own design studio and Swiss Miss is her design journal, bringing her experience of several NYC design firms. On top of running this rather super blog, she has also designed her own app, Teux Deux, which is helps users build their own to-do lists. Her Youtube videos are worth a watch as well.
Creative Bloq is one of those wonderful “I’m just passing through” blogs, filled with great news, reviews, thought pieces and articles from the world of branding and design. Among some of the most memorable recent articles is a very contemporary piece on the new Facebook “dislike” button, a beginner’s guide to logo design and a think piece that asks the question – “what would happen if Nineties pop song ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ was a pop song?
More Than Branding
More Than Branding - a great international blog, based out of the Dominican Republic, it is organised into the categories of advertising and design, marketing & strategy, branding and social media. Head there now, and you can check out a great post they’ve recently published on what makes a great logo. In the words of designer Paul Rand “an ideal logo is simple, elegant versatile, practical and unforgettable.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Lovely Package - we thought this one was interesting because it’s about packaging design. It is organised into themed posts based on categories such as athletics, fashion, food, health and beauty, entertainment and home. It also offers opportunities to advertise.
The Logo Smith
The Logo Smith – another personal blog with a great professional outlook, this is the site of professional graphic designer Graham Smith. It showcases logo designs, monomarks, lettering design and application icons, among other things. There’s a great blog showcasing design ideas and industry advice for freelancers.
Logo Design Love
Logo Design Love - a simple concept for a blog – a website (and a published book) on the design of logos and brand identities. Initially launched as somebody’s side project in 2008, it has become a genuinely useful insight into brand management. It’s got some really useful blog posts and thought pieces on brand management.
The Dieline – the final blog in our list is another packaging and design blog. We love this one because as well as being a great forum for discussion, it’s also got some extra features including brand design related awards (studio of the year, the Neenan packaging award) as well as a useful guide to design related events. There’s a newsletter if you want to sign up to all their news and content.
